LifeWise is implementing coverage for dependent children up to age 26 who remain on their parents’ health plan, prior to the date required in federal healthcare reform.
Implementation News
- LifeWise and other insurers have chosen to implement this provision earlier, as of June 1, 2010, rather than the scheduled date of October 1.
- LifeWise will maintain coverage for dependent children to age 26 covered under individual and small group policies as of June 1, 2010 even if they no longer meet the current age requirement for dependent child coverage before October 1, 2010.
- We are also giving our large employer group customers the choice to do the same for their employees’ dependent children.

The media has been covering health plans implementing additional reform provisions ahead of schedule, in part based on requests from the Administration and Congress. That dynamic makes clear that stakeholder input, above and beyond the language of the law itself, will be a significant factor in reform implementation and its impact on all purchasers of healthcare coverage.

- We’re working with healthcare providers across our network to control costs, prioritize cost-effective care, and improve efficiency.
