What comes next is receiving a lot of attention. One news article highlighted a key point: many reform decisions will be made based on legislative language that starts with the phrase “the Secretary shall…”
Meaning, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services will have a huge role to play in defining and clarifying many aspects of the law. Until that happens, health plans—and other stakeholders—will be moving forward in an uncertain environment.
One immediate example is the issue of “grandfathering” and what impact it may have on customers currently considering benefit changes. We have joined other stakeholders in pressing HHS for clarity on this issue.
